We are thrilled to announce the Summer 2021 arrival of the latest release of Duolingo for Schools, our free teacher tools designed for today’s language learning classrooms. While the Duolingo for Schools product has been supporting classroom teachers since 2015, this latest release represents a massive shift towards making it even easier and more fun to support students with learning a new language. This version works perfectly with the way teachers teach and the way students learn, and it continues to be 100% free, ensuring equitable access to language learning for everyone.

While we believe the benefits of Duolingo for Schools are absolutely limitless (what can we say, we’re a bit biased), here are some of the key highlights that we think language teachers will be pretty excited about:

  • It’s free, fun, and effective. Because there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution to meeting the diverse needs of today’s classrooms, Duolingo for Schools aims to give all language teachers and their students free access to the most extensive and engaging language education curriculum anywhere — inside the classroom, at home, or on the go — and on any device. Students love the gamification used throughout Duolingo, which helps keep them motivated by earning points (XP), maintaining consecutive days of language practice (“streaks”), friendly competition through leaderboards, and more.
  • Onboards students quickly and easily. Once teachers have signed up for Duolingo for Schools, getting language learners set up on Duolingo is a simple process: teachers can either invite students with personalized links, or add them directly to their Duolingo classroom. Either way, students will be learning and having fun on Duolingo in no time.
  • Augments any classroom curriculum approach. Duolingo believes teachers know their students best. Building on the efficacy of our Duolingo courses, Duolingo for Schools augments any curriculum. Teachers are provided with a creative way to increase engagement that seamlessly aligns with their own curriculum, and students are given content designed to promote long-term retention.
  • Encourages personalized, self-driven learning. Powered by machine learning models and language learning experts, Duolingo helps support differentiated instruction by meeting language learners at any proficiency level, emphasizing the fundamentals for beginners or providing advanced learners with additional enrichment. And because it is self-paced, Duolingo helps drive independent learning.
  • Helps teachers inform instruction. A true partner in the classroom is one that understands student needs and empowers educators to meet them. The new Duolingo for Schools gives teachers insight into student activity that helps inform classroom instruction and assignment creation that’s of most value to learners.
